A little more on Ford vs. Ferrari.....
We finally caved in and went to see the movie. It’s just crazy how much we know about…all of it.
We thought the movie was entertaining but I think the screen writer missed out on a chunk of historic racing drama. Did you know there were THIRTEEN Ford GT-40’s that STARTED the 1966 race? The 8 factory big-block cars plus 5 small-block privateers. After 24 hours, know how many finished? THREE. Get it? THREE. As in, THOSE THREE - the 1-2-3 three.
So, YES - after the last Ferrari blew up, Ford truly did order their cars to slow down but it was because Ford couldn’t risk the drivers racing each other for the win and potentially blowing up the only three cars they had left.
Here’s more - below is a photo of the winners - the drivers of the first and second place GT-40’s. The super tired guy in the raincoat with his arm around Ken Miles? That’s Leo Beebe. Ken Miles is the one in the funny hat with his arm around the winner of the race, Bruce McLaren. Know why? They were teammates for Shelby American and their team finished 1 and 2, which is why they were all having a laugh and a celebratory beer together. As a team.
The movie was fun but the truth is cool.
1046 Goes To Hollywood
An example of just how cool “our” GT-40 is - 1046 was invited to be on the red carpet for the Hollywood premiere of Ford vs. Ferrari starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale. How crazy is this?????
The Tom and Mark Show
Is it me or does Mark look like he’s about to jump from a speeding car?
In the news....
In general, I really hate surprises but GOOD surprises are ok - we got the cover 3x lately!!! COOL!!!
Cruise night
My crew is made up of some seriously deranged car people. Apparently, they don’t get enough of each other during the work week and often pile into whatever personal classic cars are functional and hit the local cruise night. Every guy in this shop has some kind of classic vehicle. Maybe for a shop party this summer we should put all the keys in a hat, pick at random and do a little road rally up the coast. That might be fun, want to come?
Lucybelle!!
This is incredibly exciting - we are getting an RSK to restore AND she’s got a name!! I love vehicles with names!! Meet Lucybelle III, Ed Hugus’s 1959 Le Mans ride. OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!!! The shop is wildly excited about this, stay tuned….
Oh my
Two big blocks in the house is just ridiculous, even for this place.
I wonder when the last time 1046 and 1047 got to hang out together? 1966 Le Mans?
Still together after all these years...
Who are you still talking to after 30 years that's not your mom?
